What is a Rooftop?
A rooftop bar or restaurant is any venue perched on the last floor of a building, no matter the size (height) of the edifice. Phnom Penh counts a few property only on the third or forth floor of a small building.
What is a Skybar?
A skybar is a rooftop venue. However, there are a few additional criteria to make it a skybar. First is the height, these properties must sit atop a tall high rise (20 floors & more) which grants them a superb view on the horizon or the surrounding cityscape. Secondly, it must be a high standing venue.
Why so many?
Phnom Penh boast quite a large number of rooftops and sky bars. It started in 2010 with Le Moon and Eclipse then every year would see a new venue coming into the scene. The fact of the matter is that the weather is usually pretty good in those latitudes, gently caressed by fresh winds coming from the two rivers. So it is definitely a good place to enjoy the evening, while street level terraces are a bit hotter. So it became a trend for most people in Phnom Penh
